Facade and Landscape Lighting in Dubai

The facade and the garden should be lit as one design. Most villas light them separately, with different ideas and different lights, and the outside never quite comes together.
Getting one element right is hard enough. Making the house and the garden work together is where most people get stuck.
Facade lighting: two common mistakes
The first is running out of ideas. Many villas end up with the same wall lamps sold in every shop, fixed at regular gaps along the walls. They light the wall, but they do nothing for the house.
The second is too much linear light. Once people discover LED lines, they run them up and across every edge of the building. The result is overkill. The house looks outlined, not lit.
A good facade picks a few things worth showing: the strongest lines of the architecture, the entrance, a textured wall. Everything else is allowed to stay calm.
Landscape lighting: no ceiling to lean on
Indoors, the ceiling gives you a starting point. Outside there is none, and that is when most people panic. They copy something they saw somewhere else, or light whatever is closest.
A garden needs layers, just like a room. Soft light to walk by. Light on a few trees or plants that deserve it. A glow on the water, if there is a pool. And darkness in between, so the lit parts can stand out.
Making the two work together
Use the same colour of light on the house and in the garden, so nothing looks out of place.
Decide what the eye should see first from the gate, then second, then third. The facade and the garden should lead the eye together.
And keep it comfortable. Path lights should light the path, not your eyes.
Built for Dubai outdoors
Heat, dust, sprinklers and pool water are hard on outdoor lights. Choose lights made for outdoor use, sealed against dust and water, from someone who can replace them quickly when needed.
An example
For a private villa in Alibaug, our concept showed the owner three options for the facade at night before a single light was chosen. The house and the landscape were planned as one picture.

Quick answers
How do I light a villa facade without overdoing it?
Pick a few features worth showing, like the entrance and the strongest lines of the house, and leave the rest calm.
Should the facade and the garden use the same lights?
Not the same lights, but the same colour of light and one plan, so they look like one design.
