Neon Flex or LED Strip: Which Do You Need?

PureGlo dotless neon flex lit warm white, bending in a smooth curve

Both give you a line of light. They are built for different jobs.

An LED strip is made to hide. Neon flex is made to be seen, and to live outdoors.

A strip is meant to stay out of sight

A strip has a bright dot at every LED. Look straight at it and you see every dot.

That is why we use strips only where they hide: under a cabinet, inside a shelf, in a slot along a wall. You see the glow on the surface, never the strip.

Neon flex is dotless. The light comes out as one smooth line, so it can sit in full view: along a facade, around a sign, on the edge of a step.

Sun, rain and the pool

A standard strip is made for indoor rooms. Direct sun and standing water are not its place.

Neon flex is sealed in thick silicone. It takes the full UAE sun. It can sit underwater in a pool or a fountain. It can go by the sea, because the silicone we use resists salt water.

Knocks, dust and fire

Outdoor lights get knocked, stepped near and washed. Neon flex is tough enough for that.

Our silicone also has a coating that keeps dust from settling on it, so the line stays clean and bright.

And the silicone is flame retardant, so it resists catching fire.

Corners and curves

A strip bends one way only. On a curved wall or a tight corner, it fights the shape.

Neon flex comes in two kinds. One bends up and down. One bends to the side. Choose the kind that follows your drawing.

Steam rooms and saunas

A steam room is hot and wet all day. Most linear lights are not made for it.

When a steam room or a sauna needs a line of light, we can supply a neon flex version rated for up to 90°C.

Which one do you need?

  • The light hides and lights a surface indoors. An LED strip, set in a profile.

  • The line itself is on show. Neon flex.

  • It faces sun, rain, a pool, the sea or steam. Neon flex.

  • It has to follow a curve. Neon flex, in the kind that bends your way.

Quick answers

What is the difference between neon flex and an LED strip?

An LED strip shows a dot at every LED, so it works best hidden, lighting a surface. Neon flex is dotless and sealed in silicone, so it can be seen and used outdoors or underwater.

Can neon flex be used in a pool?

Yes. Choose a line rated IP68, which is made for use underwater.

Can I put a linear light in a steam room or sauna?

Yes, with neon flex made for that heat. Our sauna and steam room version is rated for up to 90°C, so check how hot your sauna runs.

Where can I buy dotless neon flex in the UAE?

Nakashi supplies PureGlo dotless neon flex from Dubai.
